Beyond Sticker Charts
Three systems for responding to camper behavior consistently across your whole organization.
At a Glance
Responding to camper behavior well requires more than good instincts and caring staff. It requires organizational systems that give everyone role clarity, reduce bias, and make the response to behavior consistent regardless of which staff member is on duty. This training gives leadership teams three tools that work together: a continuum that determines who responds, a board and meeting structure that tracks what’s happening, and a planning framework for campers who need more structured support.
THE PROBLEM
When every staff member responds to behavior differently, campers notice. This training builds the systems that make consistency possible.
Without a shared system, behavior response at camp tends to be reactive and inconsistent. Some staff handle things on their own when they shouldn’t. Others escalate immediately when they could have handled it themselves. Families get different information depending on who they talk to. Leadership teams spend meeting time putting out fires rather than proactively tracking and supporting the campers who need the most help.
A systemized approach gives staff role clarity, creates clear boundaries around who handles what, and protects the organization’s time, energy, and liability.
WHAT’S INSIDE
3 Core Modules
The Camper Behavior Continuum
A four-level framework that outlines how the organization responds to challenging camper behavior and who is responsible at each level. Level 1 behaviors are handled by frontline staff. Level 4 behaviors involve emergency response and camper departure. The continuum keeps responses consistent across staff, across sessions, and across campers.
A shared system for determining who responds and when
The Behavior Board and Daily Meetings
A physical board, kept in the camp office out of sight of campers, that makes the continuum visible and actionable. Camper names move up and down the board during daily leadership meetings based on how their situation is developing. The daily meeting structure ensures the whole leadership team has a shared picture of where support is needed across the community.

The Camper Behavior Improvement Plan
When a camper needs more than a continuum-level response, they need a plan. The C-BIP starts with an ABC chart, antecedent, behavior, consequence, to identify what’s driving the behavior. From there, the team builds a three-part plan: precipitating behaviors, specific interventions, and potential additional consequences if the plan doesn’t hold.
